Meanwhile, DORA's 2025 research documented the same tension from a different angle: AI adoption improved code quality metrics by roughly 7.5% on average, but delivery stability declined at the same time. We got more throughput, but less predictability came with it.

The second view is delivery health: main branch stability, change failure rate, integration frequency, and lead time from commit to production. These metrics tell you whether that productivity is actually shipping into the business.

The critical insight is that these two views often diverge in the early stages of AI adoption, and the divergence is a leading indicator, not a lagging one.
